She is a 32 year-old mother of 3. She reminds me of Joan of Arc, except she's not into violence :D

edit to change title to attract more attention (War & Peace report :D )

Re: Tawakkul Karman, from Yemen

I am a little bit concerned that only one person besides me has viewed this interview. Maybe I should not have placed it in the Women's Thread to get it some more exposure? I don't know.

Watching Tawakkul Karman speaking in New York City yesterday stirred something very deep inside me. A few things, but the one I think I would like to comment on, and I have not totally digested it yet, but I suppose that it could be more of a contextual or relational stirring.

She, to me, epitomizes someone who has managed to put an end to the secret life (see my thread in General Discussion), although she did not even discuss this idea, at a personal level, so much, to her. But she is living in context of support by her relations (to be literal about relational) in her family, but also in relationship to the context of women as well as men, as well as the history of her nation. And because her views and passion for Freedom of Speech are supported and because she has the strength and courage and intelligence and heart, she is able to step forward to do what is necessary, to do what she believes is right.

I love how she does not focus only on Yemen in this regard, but extends these principles to the entire world.

I am skimming a little here, but that is because I am still absorbing who she is and what she means, in our world, today.

It was very moving to see how she spoke about her family, and especially her husband who walks in front of her, to protect her. But his support is more than just for her, he is protecting what she stands for and is also willing to share and defend those views. So they work together. That is a pretty awesome nuclear family.

So peace to you Tawakkul Karman. You are truly a heroine. And thank you for inspiring me.
