So, you're prepping but hub/so thinks you're crazy

I see a lot of posts where the mandudes are prepping or trying to prep for doom but the wives/girlfriends don't want any part of it.
It has seemed to me, over the years I've haunted these forums, that that is most often the case.
what about women who prep and their husbands/bf whatever are totally against it?
that's become the case with hub and I.
He was onboard with all this in the beginning but now wants no part of it.
that makes it difficult here as he is the primary wage earner and is not about to spend money on anything "doom" related.
although I am an extremely resourceful person, there are just certain things I can't make or salvage.
It is sometimes impossible to even discuss things that concern me with him as he wants to hear nothing about it.
I'm wondering if there are other women here that has a similar problem?
what do you do?
how do you handle it?

I wish I could answer your question, Pam, but I'm no longer married. Hey, come to think of it, it's like we're in the same boat! :) I sympathize, though, arguing over how to spend money is the pits. Wonder why he changed his tune.

Re: So, you're prepping but hub/so thinks you're crazy

best I can tell terrifun, he just became overwhelmed with so much information. He was looking for a fast crash too and when it didn't happen he sort of chucked the whole idea. He wanted to have hope for the future too. Not like some of us here have hope that we will rise again from the ashes some day, but that there won't be any ashes in the first place.
I understand and don't get too awfully frustrated with him about it, he is my friend. I just keep moving along, trying to find ways to save money or make improvements that will benefit us in the long run.
sometimes, If I can couch things in a certain way to where is doesn't appear doom related but rather a wise move for us in other terms, he will go along with it. Like buying the food dehydrator. :D
Most of my really valuable preps are in my head too. LOL
skills, that's where it's at!

Re: So, you're prepping but hub/so thinks you're crazy

Hi pamela. I so hear you on this one, with the important caveat that at least your hub was at one point on board!! It is even harder when the hub really refuses to wise up ... he sort of gets it but he doesn't want to admit that cornucopia cannot go on forever.

All I can say is that you are on the right track ... each step you take to prepare can also be described in more neutral terms such as saving money, being environmentally conscious, or even just "hobby" activities. Yes, my new hobby is water storage!! And passive solar houses are nice because they have so much natural light, don't you think?! Okay, maybe it doesn't work for everything, but you get the idea since you've already been doing it that way. My other thought is that everyone needs a break from doom ... and non-doomers need MORE of a break from doom! Like maybe a year or two!! Having to continually deny to oneself that there might be some truth to this doom stuff when you really prefer to completely ignore it and continue with BAU has got to be tiresome. So just keep on prepping and only discuss things in a more upfront way when truely necessary. Things that require more financial investment of course require more honest discussion, in my opinion ...

And by the way, it was really hard to give a thoughtful response to this thread with the very notion of Frotholina making me laugh!

Re: So, you're prepping but hub/so thinks you're crazy

Right now I am single, so I am more or less free to decide how to prep at the moment. However, I think it would be somewhat of a challenge to explain to a future girlfriend why we need to prepare, but hopefully I would find someone of a similar mindset. :D

Not at all EG. Just make sure you choose someone who is already a doomer.
