Post-Oil, Post-Corny, and Post-Doom

Dunno this is the best spot for this, but for anyone with enough Doom in the diet, this could be a little healthier fare.

so his idea requires:

1) the grid to function - to pass on deigns/build communities
2) heavy oil use
3) capital

anything that requires these three inputs is sure to fail in a powerdowned world.

The lady farmer at the end with the hoe through a wood handle - is where this is headed.

sorry phildo - there really is no happy chapter.
I said to my soul, be still, and wait without hope
For hope would be hope for the wrong thing; wait without love,
For love would be love of the wrong thing; there is yet faith
But the faith and the love and the hope are all in the waiting.

so his idea requires:

Let's see . . .

1) the grid to function - to pass on deigns/build communities

You think? I mean really? He was talking about single CD / DVD level encyclopedia level stuff. That is more hand-carry than grid, per se.

2) heavy oil use

Did not really see that, either. His little bobcat/tractor would do ethanol just as well as Oil. Of course I would trend towards electric.

3) capital

Not much. Unless you are counting a scrap yard as a bank. Which in a Mad Max world, I guess it is. But surely not much cash.

anything that requires these three inputs is sure to fail in a powerdowned world.

I see where your path leads.

Happy Trails to You.

Good post, Phildo! :)

Dr. Jakubowski's ideas are what really need to be shared and talked about as broadly as possible--- while the lights are still on. (i didn't get it as "post-oil"-- at least not clearly spoken).

His approach builds resilience and that is what every entrepreneurial CSA and community-minded homestead needs to have imbedded into it.

If he has open source schematics and small budget build or conversion plans, folks need to see them now.

I think he may buy a decade or so for CSAs with some money (or grants that will happen once the food picture gets startlingly clear)...

I vote yes on "cush-related" issues (as in cushion). :) 8-)

Yeah, you cannot really make that big of deal of Oil in most public discussion. Usually I get away with in Real World Energy Land by discussing Oil as "bad business." We have to import it, it is expensive, dirty, etc. A few things have piled up to give "clearly spoken" about Oil some taint . . .

1. Doomer Drama Queens and the "Profits" of Doom. Make such ridiculous claims that it harms the presentation of the legit portions of the Oil topic.
2. Knee Jerk reaction from mis-information campaigns like Bakken, Green River, etc.
3. The follow-on need to explain resource depletion, production profiles, on and on.

It all just takes over the topic at hand.

Agreed. But for now it looks like you have to put in a little effort. Looks like they are about 1/4 to 1/3 of their way into the overall list. Documenting and the follow-on response that generates causes a lot more work to pile up that takes away from completion of the base portions of the project(s).

Agree on that, as well. We are looking at using Food Stamps as a "well-funded" customer base. That opens the market up to a customer with money (aka Food Stamps), and a flexible resource as far as getting folks involved in the process.

Working the Energy Property Energy Grants in the meanwhile.
