Re: Peak Oil animation: "There's No Tomorrow"

I watched it the other day Dermot and was thoroughly impressed, It's clear, easy to follow and it tells it how it is.

It is an exceptional work! Congratulations on getting it completed.

I have already started to send the link to people I know as a peak oil primer.

nice job, but the ending seemed a bit optimistic.

i don't know why folks like heinburg/TAE/demetri/demot etc take the "lite doomer" road

as if a die off is negotiable
I said to my soul, be still, and wait without hope
For hope would be hope for the wrong thing; wait without love,
For love would be love of the wrong thing; there is yet faith
But the faith and the love and the hope are all in the waiting.

Given that this is going to be the first experience that many viewers will have,
safe not to go too dark. Though it does show a die-off at the end of seq4, and
say at the end that none of the personal mitigation efforts will prevent collapse.
The emphasis throughout is not to sit around, waiting for help from above, as
it's not likely to materialise.

Chances are also high that a lot of schoolkids will see this, given the medium,
so I don't want to be the guy that pushes somebody unstable over the edge (we've
seen members of this community who are adults lose it from time to time).

A seminal Peak Oil presentation, dermot. I could not be more impressed. Wow, I don't know what else to say as I'm crunched for time right now.

Bravo, sir. You've cemented your place in the annals of the Petro Apocalypse, Savinar-like (hope you take that as the complement it's intended to be, lol. I know some are still sore with ole Matt).

You know dermot, I am so sick of coddling people. Indeed, I don't even bother talking about PO to people anymore. I think your presentation is firm and, frankly, pulls no punches. And it does so without hair-on-fire hysteria. More like Joe Friday precision. If someone who watches your presentation can still deny that first there is a legitimate issue involved here and second that it WILL affect them personally, then I say fuck 'em. Sorry to be so blunt but that's just the way I feel.

After all, and you all know this, there will be survivors and there will be a lot of deaths. And in that equation there is no doubting that someone has to do the dying. So I say to them: "Deny 'til you die. Thanks for playin!'" I mean we are talking about evolution here, are we not? Survival of the fittest? The most adaptable? The weak must perish. Simple as that.

You can't bother yourself with these sort of thoughts, dermot. People need to face reality. If a few can't handle it, that's not your fault. You are merely the messenger (not even a prophet), alerting others of a fire that is already burning down the theater. Having said that, I believe you set the temperature at a level that's comfortable for most.

yeah - I have heard this argument before, but i always wonder if that is what drives it OR is the author not wanting to be perceived as an "extremist"?

don't get me wrong dermot - really good show - probably one of the best i have seen - and i don't know if there is an "approvable" way to say that because of overshoot - most of us will be dead in the next 2 years.

Re: Peak Oil animation: "There's No Tomorrow"

It's funny, but I've seen some of the comments on FB (which is a great way to gauge perception) saying "I get it, we're going to die" - this from folks who probably do "get it" at some level. Sounds like Stage 4 (depression) prior to acceptance. Though the reactions I'm seeing now are from friends (or their friends) so these will skew to friendly.

I titled sequence 5 "the happy ending" very much tongue in cheek - remembering "what a way to go", that said it wouldn't do a happy ending, then DID a frigging happy ending! Agh...what were they thinking?

I suspect that most of us are so used to doom that we're a bit jaded to it (just get it over with already sort of thing). I suspect that a mainstreet audience will be pretty freaked out by it. One of the guys on HA said that two of his co-workers were "shell-shocked" after seeing it, which pleased me.

I have some making of vids; will go through them and post as they go up. Here's the one about the dieoff shot, which was hands down, the scareist, on every level!
