Ugo Bardi's review of a new book on bio-fuels, includes a discussion of Brazil's low-wages-dependent ethanol industry. Not that other people's slave conditions matter much to industry shills.

There's just no easy way to cut sugar cane.

The good news is that gasoline consumption is falling thru the floor,
so that Alt Energy will be going by the wayside.

Just in the past week there have been reports that American gasoline consumption is cratering along with the Baltic Dry Index (which measures global shipping rates), indicating a massive slowdown in the economy. And now comes word that taxes revenues in the nation's largest state also went into free fall in January. Here is Bloomberg with the details:

Fact is that Brazil's ethanol industry is viable only thanks to slave labor and clear-cutting. But it's doubtful that either one of these is much of a concern to an industry shill in Texas. Bardi's book review by the way is hardly old material, unless you think last month is no longer relevant.
