Mushrooms

It's autumn. Does anybody here forage for fungi?

It's been a bit of a funny year for them in the UK because of it has been the hottest October on record, and one of the driest. All sorts of usually-common edible mushrooms have been very hard to find, but I've been finding other things I've never seen before. :)

Re: Mushrooms

It's been dry where I live too, lost a disease tree and boy was it hard to bring down.Anyway I have always wanted to forage for mushrooms but I am not to bright and may pick the wrong species and die. I think milk thistle is the only herb to save your live-r if you do eat the wrong one. But Ifound a neat web site on what Fungi does for the environment and You certainly have a good hobby but alas you have a bright mind too!

Yes, fungi are very important for all ecosystems. It's actually my job as well as my hobby - people pay me to identify mushrooms for them.

Re: Mushrooms

I have recently taken to adding Ghiitake mushrooms, to my evening salad. I use 6 - 7 ounces raw. Are raw mushroom, safe to eat or should they be cooked? Are they more nutritious, raw or cooked.

oh you have seen them before...a very long time ago - 75,000 years ago or more - we have just forgot

For hope would be hope for the wrong thing; wait without love,
For love would be love of the wrong thing; there is yet faith
But the faith and the love and the hope are all in the waiting.

I have no idea what you think I am speaking of!

I was talking about mushrooms, and not particularly the hallucinogenic ones if that's what you mean. The only relevance I know of a date of 75K years ago is the eruption of Toba.
