Yeah...too bad we don't have enough horses anymore.

In certain circles, we're seeing that change.

Of the folks I know, as a for instance. 10 years ago, NO ONE I knew had draft teams or even a single draft critter.

Now, I know 6 farmers that have teams and are transitioning to horse power for a lot of the tractor work.

These are not hobby farms either.

- Yeah, it's cool to watch big, handsome teams really drive hard into their collars like that.

- Mine aren't accustomed to that sort of thing. They're mostly from carriage backgrounds. When we first hook them to a plow (much harder to pull than a wagon), they usually stop and say "Hey! Let off the brakes back there, would ya?"

- First time we hooked big Sam up to a deep plow, he turned his head to look at us, then looked towards the tractor, then us, then the tractor... "What's wrong with you people? There a tractor for this sort of thing right over there! I want my road-cart back!"

My wife wants horses. Bad. I'm resisting, because I think keeping animals that eat a lot and can't take care of themselves when there's snow on the ground is ludicrous in Minnesota. The idea of having to put up tons of hay when we no longer have tractor fuel available does not appeal to me in the slightest.
