Forum Changes (Jan 2012)

Greetings my fellow Oilagers,

I have been busy behind the scenes working at refocusing the main forums page to make it a bit simpler, no forum has gone anywhere it just has been moved in an effort to streamline the main forum.

In the spirit of transparency, I figured I would let everyone know exactly the changes that were made and to help you find what may have been moved.

Forum Changes:
"Off Topic" Has been renamed "The Oil Age Lounge"
"Mutant Zombie Biker Lounge" is now a Subforum of "The Oil Age Lounge"
"Hope, Love and Good News" is now a Subforum of "The Oil Age Lounge"
"Classifieds" is now a Subforum of "The Oil Age Lounge"
"Oil Age Introductions" is now a Subforum of "The Oil Age Lounge"

New Forum has been added "Getting Prepared"
"Security and Self Defence" is now a Subforum of "Getting Prepared"
"Health and Medicine" is now a Subforum of "Getting Prepared"
"Mental Prepardness" is now a Subforum of "Getting Prepared"
"Women's Issues" is now a Subforum of "Getting Prepared"

"Pit of Politics" renamed "Political Events and Discussion" to not make it seem like such a bad place to be.

"Ecological Events" and "Natural Disaster forums" were merged to become "Ecological Events and Disasters"

"PO Deniers" renamed "Peak Oil Contrarians" to give people a place to tastefully disagree.

A few sticky changes:
The Music thread was moved to the "Peak Oil Lounge" remains a sticky
The Poetry thread was moved to the "Peak Oil Lounge" remains a sticky
The 3 "How to survive" thread have been moved to "Getting Prepared" and remain stickied.

I am putting in some news guidelines for stickied posts as well to prevent a full page of that kind of post in any given forum, which will help to cut down on clutter.

I hope you all like the new additions and changes,

Your friendly neighbourhood Templar.

Re: Forum Changes (Jan 2012)

Makes sense to me.
I said to my soul, be still, and wait without hope
For hope would be hope for the wrong thing; wait without love,
For love would be love of the wrong thing; there is yet faith
But the faith and the love and the hope are all in the waiting.

Re: Forum Changes (Jan 2012)

I like the logic of the new Forum Changes. Thank you Templar for your time and efforts, and anyone else who have helped us to think about the changes. It's a great idea to take stock of what works and what can be improved, especially in our world today, where events seem to change so quickly.

And I love the spirit of transparency here. Thank you. :D

Re: Forum Changes (Jan 2012)

Thanks for the changes. While I am very on board with the effects of Peak Oil, I am more involved with prepping for the future. I left the Philly area 5 years ago and moved back to central PA and have been diligently setting up my doomstead (3 acres, 4000 sq ft garden, large poultry flock, young orchard, etc.). I am more interested in gardening for the future, collecting tools, etc.

BTW, my idea of prepping is not about how many guns I can buy or what type of weapon is best post collapse. My idea of prepping is how to live a sustainable life.
My doomstead is my gift to the future when I'm gone.

Re: Forum Changes (Jan 2012)

Hey Swampman,

It is my hope as time goes along that we can cater to the whole spectrum of people and goals,

I do not want to force anyone anywhere they don't want to be. So I figure the best course for the forum is give the avenues of discussion and let people find their own niche, and let them evolve themselves as time goes along. Give them the tools, community and information on our forum here to do just that. No matter where you are from, be it wide eyed and terrified newbie to a seasoned prepper living in the woods with enough supplies and skills to look after yourself (and your community if you so choose) for a long time.

We are a varied bunch here and we all have knowledge to pass onto each other.

I wan't to continue to make the forum a place where we can all help each other, because as said by the immortal Red Green, "I'm pulling for ya, Were all in this together"

Thank you Templar. I agree with your intentions. We are a community, and hopefully we can all help one another over time, and be able to change over time too.
