Excellent article on AJ on Peak Oil
Good to see articles like this showing up!
I especially like the giant picture of the HALLIBURTON tanker!

I didn't say anything about PCI being "in charge" of anything. I said the article sounded an awful lot like it was a recital of some pretty long standing PCI talking points.

ObiWan wrote:It appears to be more of a list of Post Carbon Institute talking points. I was hoping that an AJ article would at least be able to wrangle more than a few Arabic experts, rather than basing their article on the information (not) available to an advocacy group.

Apparently my contribution was correctly noting the origin of the article and lack of any new information contained therein. Would you prefer a comment interlaced with a modicum of critical thinking?
The article talks about reserves quite a bit. Did anyone note where the experience of the two primary sources (Whipple and Hughes) with reserves was mentioned? Have they done them before? Presented the reports to auditors? Defended them in court? Ordered paid, or not paid, the taxes related to the prediction of said reserves? Call me crazy, but it would seem if you want to discuss reserves, how big, how they change, why it matters, that someone should have asked if either of these people knew anything about them, how many times they had done them, the challenges they faced when doing them, how their estimates changed over the years and why, and how that is relevant to knowing anything at all about Saudi Arabian/OPEC reserve numbers in general.
Sure seems to me that if you want to talk about specific and technical subjects, you go find the people who have training, experience and a reputation for doing such things. Otherwise...well....I'm sure a McDonald's worker could take a stab at explaining a particular surgical procedure on the human brain, but it would seem that you might receive more complete, accurate and objective information on the topic if you asked a brain surgeon.
