5.7 -mag. earthquake off vancouver island

A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck just past noon off the coast of Vancouver Island, about 170 km west of Ucluelet, on Saturday.

The United States Geological Survey reported the quake at 12:05 p.m. and said in a statement that “the magnitude is such that a tsunami is not expected.”

Meh. We have 1 of those every year.

It's the 9+ Megathrust one I'm worried about, due any time now...

Recent activity (as of today):

The second minor earthquake this week took place off Vancouver Island Wednesday evening, but was not felt onshore.

The tremblor, with a magnitude of 4.7, occurred at 10: 37 p.m.

A 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Vancouver Island Tuesday. The quake struck just before 3 p.m. southwest of Port Alice.

A 5.9 magnitude earthquake off Oregon was reported by the Alaska Tsunami Warning Centre later Tuesday night. It was not enough to generate a tsunami warning. That quake occurred at about 7: 30 p.m. at a depth of 12 kilometres.

A 5.6 magnitude earthquake occurred off Vancouver Island on Feb. 4, but was not felt onshore.
